California Almonds presents keynote speaker Ron Finley in Plant Some Sh*t.
WHO:
- Ron Finley, guerilla gardener from South Central LA
WHAT: Plant Some Sh*t
SPONSOR: California Almonds
WHEN: Friday, December 2nd
TIME: 8:00am CST
SESSION DESCRIPTION:
Ron Finley is a native South Central Los Angeles resident that grew tired of living in a food desert. With a growing concern of the rising obesity rate and lack of healthy food options in his area, he decided to make a change by planting a vegetable garden outside of his front door on the dirt strips next to his home. Even though the city of Los Angeles reprimanded Ron for planting on city owned property without a permit, he fought hard with fellow green activist to continue his dream of creating food forests throughout the city.
Ron considers himself an artist and gardening is his graffiti. He grows his art, the soil is his canvas. Ron believes that you have to change the composition of the soil in order to change the composition of the community and the shovel is his weapon of choice. He wants us all to become “gangsta gardeners” to take back our health and the health of our communities! Please join us as Ron speaks to teach us all to become “ecolutionary”.
