Please help us welcome another one of our amazing sponsors, The Almond Board of California!
That’s right, we’re bringing a little piece of California with us to New Orleans – California Almonds! California produces more than 80% of the world’s almond supply and accounts for 99% of domestic supply. That makes the California Almond industry a very important industry, both nationwide and worldwide.
There are a few misconceptions when it comes to Almond production. Not only are almond trees not any more “thirsty” than other fruit and nut trees in the state, but their byproducts – the shells and hulls, are also very useful in the farming community, so nothing goes to waste! Hulls (the dry and fuzzy fruit) are sold as livestock feed, which reduces the amount of water used to grow other feed crops, and shells are used as livestock bedding.
Over 90% of California Almond farms are family farms, owned in large part by third- and fourth-generation family farmers. Almond growers recognize the need to carefully manage resources for current and future generations and offer continued work for their employees without negative impacts on their families, neighbors and local communities.
California Almonds is sponsoring our Friday morning Breakfast Keynote with Ron Finley. We are also excited to have them at the ShiftCon 2016, sharing more information about California Almonds, industry practices, and of course tasty almonds and almond recipes!
