When you think of the holidays, what comes to mind?
Do you think of wrapping paper and bags and tissue paper and all these other things that are supremely wasteful? Yeah, me too. No matter how much I love the diverse Santa wrapping paper at Target, it still screams, “I’M BEING WASTEFUL!!!” Amiright?
So what do you do in order to keep the surprise alive along with Mother Earth? I’ve got 3 tips for you that are super easy and will make you feel even better this gift-giving season.
3 Eco-Friendly Wrapping Options To Use This Holiday Season
Recycle your wrapping paper/boxes/bags.
Not in the “I’m going to toss these in the recycling bin” way. But reuse them immediately! Growing up we would open our presents at our house before heading to my grandmother’s house. We would use the wrapping paper and items from what we opened to wrap the presents that we were taking with us. Another great use for them is as scrap paper for coloring and painting for kids or as the table protector replacing newspaper. While this is still using paper and creating waste, it’s still an eco-friendly wrapping option because you’re recycling. Also, grab other peoples wrapping paper and save it for the future!
Use a reusable box or bag to wrap.
One of the more popular brands that caters to eco-friendly wrapping or being reusable is Lilywrap. Lilywrap is a reusable stretchy, cloth gift wrap that is so easy to use, really pretty and best of all, eco-friendly. Reusable boxes are some of my favorites. There’s always a use for boxes in my house. They get used for combs, brushes, hair ties, and more.
Use a scarf.
Now they get two gifts in one! Unless you do something like wrap up an empty box, ha! Not sure how to wrap them? Check out this nifty infographic that gives you some info on how it’s done.
So how are you going wrap your gifts this holiday?
