Steven Hoffman has been involved in sustainable food and agriculture for more than 30 years. He is Managing Director of Compass Natural LLC, a full service marketing communications, public relations and business development agency serving natural, organic and sustainable businesses. He has also served as lead fundraiser for GMO labeling ballot initiatives including California’s Prop. 37 in 2012, Washington State’s I-522 in 2013, and Prop. 105 in Colorado in 2014. Hoffman is former Editorial Director of New Hope Natural Media’s trade publishing division, and former Program Director of Natural Products Expo, the world’s largest natural and organic products expositions. A co-founder of the annual LOHAS Conference for the $300-billion “Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability” market, and former Director of The Organic Center, Hoffman also served as Rocky Mountain Sales Manager and National Marketing Director for Arrowhead Mills, now a leading organic division of the Hain-Celestial Group. Hoffman is a returned Peace Corps Volunteer, having served in agriculture and education in Central America. As an agricultural extension agent in the mid-1980s, he served as a director of Philadelphia’s Urban Gardening Program, where he helped establish more than 125 vegetable gardens in low-income Hispanic neighborhoods in the city.
