
Kari Hamerschlag is Deputy Director of Friends of the Earth’s Food and Agriculture Program. Kari implements market, policy and educational campaigns aimed at reforming animal agriculture, reducing consumption of industrial animal products, and increasing access to organic and sustainable meat and plant-based foods, especially in public schools. She is the author of numerous articles and reports including Scaling-Up Climate-friendly School Food, Shrinking the Carbon and Water Footprint of School Food, Spinning Food Farming for the Future and Chain Reaction. Prior to Friends of the Earth, Kari worked as a Senior Analyst with the Environmental Working Group where she did extensive research on the links between food production and climate change and authored a comprehensive web-based Meateater’s Guide to Climate Change and Health.
