We’re thrilled to welcome back another great sponsor. Beautycounter is back as a Gold Sponsor for ShiftCon 2018!
Beautycounter is more than just a beauty brand, they are a movement dedicated to education, transparency, and advocacy for safer beauty products. Beautycounter launched in March, 2013, with just nine skin care products. Since then, the company has grown to offer over 100 products for the whole family and distributes through a multi-channel business, the largest channel being their smart and driven network of over 25,000 independent Consultants.
Fans of the Beautycounter brand—from bloggers to clients—do more than just buy products, they help share important information with consumers about how to find safer products and help advocate for more health protective laws in D.C. Simply put, Beautycounter’s mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone.
Beautycounter works to fulfill this mission through education, delivering safer products into the marketplace and tirelessly works to push for legislative change in Washington, D.C. At the end of the day, the company wants to raise the standards for all beauty and skin care products. Pretty cool huh?
Not every company is willing to ask government for more regulations on their industry.
A few facts about the personal care industry:
- We are living with laws for cosmetics and personal care product safety that date back to 1938.
- The federal government has little to no authority to review ingredients for safety or recall harmful products from the beauty and skin care market.
- Just because an ingredient is “natural” doesn’t automatically mean it’s “safe” and there are limited laws regulating such marketing claims (note: Beautycounter calls itself a safer beauty brand).
- Less than 20% of Americans know that harmful ingredients are in their skin care and cosmetic products, and of those that do, most still believe that the federal government has the power to take action on unsafe products.
Beautycounter is also a certified B Corporation and is committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what is legally required in the United States. The Never List™ is made up of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals that they will never use when they formulate their products. (Close to 1,400 of these chemicals are already banned or restricted in personal care products by the European Union!)
The company will never test their products on animals, nor do they ask other to do so. And they always fully disclose ingredients used to formulate their products (including fragrance ingredients).
