Please join us in welcoming back another great sponsor to ShiftCon 2016 in New Orleans: American Grassfed Association!
What is American Grassfed Association?
The American Grassfed Association got its beginnings in 2003, when a group of food service industry personnel and consumer interest representatives got together to implement a labeling program around grassfed meat. Their focus is to promote the grassfed meat industry through government relations, research, concept marketing and public education. Only farms and ranches who have been certified to AGA standards may use AGA’s logo, trademark, service mark and/or design mark, and must participate in a yearly on-farm audit to keep their status.
Why Grassfed?
The AGA definition of grassfed animals is described as “those that have eaten nothing but grass and forage from weaning to harvest, have not been raised in confinement, and have never been fed antibiotics or growth hormones.” In addition, all of the AGA-Certified Producers are American family farms, and all of their livestock is born and raised in the U.S.
Choosing certified grassfed meat, enables you to be sure that it’s high-quality and healthy. Research shows that grassfed meat is lean, and contains a high percentage of Omega 3s and CLA, as well as beneficial antioxidant vitamins and minerals. Grassfed meat is also good for the planet and the communities that it is produced in. The small family farms provide jobs and strong economies in rural communities and create sustainable businesses for succeeding generations. And the pasture-based farming practices restore natural ecosystems and wildlife habitats, reduce reliance on petrochemicals, improve soil with organic matter, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially CO2.
The American Grassfed Association holds their farmers to the highest standards when it comes to farming and producing grassfed meats. We appreciate their dedication to creating a reliable labeling system for grassfed meats all over the country and are excited to have them as part of the ShiftCon family!
As well as providing high standards for producers to adhere to, the American Grassfed Association also has a great recipe section on their website to help consumers get the best experience with grassfed products.
You can find more information about the AGA on the American Grassfed Association Website, by following them on Facebook, and of course chatting with them at ShiftCon 2016!
